Is it difficult to work and study at the same time?

After a brief  exchange of words with Adacta’s representatives, I immediately knew I wanted to work there. I would say the main reason was their professionalism and attitude. And of course, the recommendation from  my friend. :)

Domen, you are a student at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science in Ljubljana, and you are already gaining experience at Adacta as a Software Developer.  Share with us, what were your reasons for joining our company?

I was first introduced to the company by my friend, who at the time was working in the Adacta IT department. Shortly after that, I decided to attend  an event which brought together students and IT companies in Slovenia. After a brief  exchange of words with Adacta’s representatives, I immediately knew I wanted to work there. I would say the main reason was their professionalism and attitude. And of course, the recommendation from  my friend. :)

When you started working as a student, you probably didn't have much experience in software development. How did you acquire all the necessary knowledge? Did your studies  help you with learning new programming languages or was it  something you learned on your own? Was it challenging?

I had some theoretical knowledge from my earlier formal education and some experience in web development from some of my other small projects. In college I didn't  learn any of the programming languages I use  today at work. However, I did learn how to be resourceful and I believe that this is one of the most important skills that an engineer should possess. With that in mind, I have acquired my knowledge mainly through  various online courses, books and constant practice.

Is it difficult to work and study at the same time? How are you managing your time?

I believe nothing is difficult if you are interested in the subject and you have good organizational and prioritization skills. My work and studies concern topics which are sometimes very interconnected and challenging. I use knowledge acquired at university  and apply it to my work on a daily basis. This really helps me to understand the bigger picture and improve  my skills much faster.

Why did you decide to gain experience at Adacta and not at another company? What makes Adacta different from other companies?

I cannot really say what makes it different from other companies, as this is my first student job in this field. However, I would point out a few things that I really like here. I work  in an amazing team, consisting of professional and fun people, who are always ready to help. I have a flexible work schedule, which allows me to plan my studying activities and sometimes work remotely. I am faced with new challenges every day and that allows me to grow both professionally and personally.

Who would you recommend student work at Adacta to?

I would recommend it to anyone who would like to work in a great team, learn new things and who enjoys challenges.
